For those who have lost most or all of their permanent teeth, Dr. Shirin Mashhoon may recommend dentures in Durham, North Carolina. A denture is a removable restoration for missing teeth and the surrounding tissues. The two types of dentures are complete dentures and partial dentures. If all of the teeth have been lost, our dentist may recommend complete dentures. If some of the natural teeth remain, partial dentures may be recommended.

Below are a few commonly asked questions about dentures:

What will my new dentures feel like?
Your dentures may feel a little bit loose or odd for a few weeks while your cheeks and tongue learn to keep them in place. In addition, saliva flow may increase for a time. These issues will dissipate as your mouth adjusts.

Will I look different with dentures?
Your dentures will be designed to look like natural teeth, so there will only be a small change in your appearance. Your dentures can even improve the appearance of your smile and fill out your face.

Will it be hard to eat with dentures?
It can be a little difficult to eat with dentures at first. To get used to eating with dentures, eat soft foods cut into small pieces. Be sure to eat using both sides of your mouth. As you become accustomed to your dentures, add other foods to slowly return to your regular diet. Be careful of hard or hot foods, as well as sharp-edged bones or shells.
